For my sophomore inspire week I was at La Plata Youth Services. Before we knew what we were going to do, all I wanted was a voice, because teens do not have power over adults, and it is really hard for the youth to have a say in anything, unless it is what the adults want to hear. So our project was for the youth to run a march, with the skaters and bikers leading it, also to have multiple events going on at Buckley Park. The events were speaking your poetry, music, games, and hopefully having a bond with the rest of the youth, also ending the day with a water balloon fight. My expectations for this event was not only did I want it to work out but I wanted it to be heard and get around, plus making new friends from around the community would be nice. The turnout for this project hasn't happened, but the progress we are slowly making is amazing and I am super proud of my peers for joining together and having a voice. This event will not be ran by any adults. Through the making of all of this, no staff helped us, or came up with ideas unless we asked for the help. The events are hopefully happening June 2nd, and I really hope several students and kids show up and have the fun and the voice they deserve.
